The Can Drive tag in SmartMoving helps dispatchers and operations teams identify which crew members are able to drive, even if they are not assigned the formal Driver role. This feature enhances scheduling accuracy and capacity planning by allowing greater flexibility when assigning driving tasks.
Overview
With the Can Drive attribute, you can:
Tag individual crew members who are capable of driving.
Filter the dispatch schedule to show only team members with the Can Drive tag.
Ensure that these crew members are automatically included in driver capacity calculations.
Avoid double-counting crew members who are both tagged as Can Drive and assigned the Driver role.
This makes it easier to visualize driving availability, maintain balanced workloads, and plan resources efficiently.
Enabling the "Can Drive" Attribute
To tag a crew member as Can Drive:
Navigate to Settings > Dispatch > Crew Members.
Select a crew member from the list.
Under the Attributes area, check the box for Can Drive.
Click Save.
Once enabled, the Can Drive tag will appear next to the crew member’s name in the Dispatch Schedule.
Viewing the Tag in Dispatch Schedule
In the Dispatch Schedule view:
Crew members with the Can Drive tag will display a colored dot on their profile icon.
The color of this dot can be customized under Settings > Dispatch > Common.
You can filter the schedule to show:
This allows you to focus on available drivers when assigning tasks and vehicles.
Capacity Calculations with "Can Drive"
SmartMoving’s capacity logic automatically includes Can Drive crew members in driver capacity calculations.
To configure this:
Go to Settings > Dispatch > Capacity.
Under the Weekly View Capacity Calculations section, select By Driver.
When this setting is active:
Any crew member with the Driver role or the Can Drive attribute will be factored into total driver capacity.
If a crew member has both the Driver role and Can Drive enabled, they are counted only once.
This ensures accurate capacity tracking and prevents duplicate calculations.
Example Use Case
If you have a crew member who occasionally drives but is not formally assigned as a Driver, tagging them as Can Drive allows you to:
Include them in the driving pool for scheduling flexibility.
View and filter them as available to drive in the Dispatch Schedule.
Automatically adjust driver capacity calculations to reflect their availability.
This helps dispatchers quickly identify which crews can take on driving responsibilities when needed.
Summary
The Can Drive tagging feature brings more precision and control to resource management in Dispatch. It enables teams to:
Easily identify and schedule qualified drivers.
Maintain accurate capacity planning.
Improve overall dispatch efficiency and reduce manual tracking.
By incorporating Can Drive into your scheduling workflow, you’ll gain a clearer, more flexible view of your team’s driving capabilities.
