Keeping an Unsent Email as a Draft on a Sales Opportunity

SmartMoving keeps an unsent email on a sales opportunity as a draft in your browser, so you can leave the opportunity and finish the message later.

What are email drafts on a sales opportunity?

When you start an email on a sales opportunity and leave before sending it, SmartMoving keeps what you wrote as a draft. The next time you open the Email tab on that opportunity, your draft is waiting.

  • Drafts save automatically. There is no button to click.

  • A draft keeps the To and Cc recipients, the subject, and the message.

  • Each opportunity has its own draft, and your drafts are visible only to you.

Before you start with email drafts

  • Drafts are part of the email composer in the communication box on a sales opportunity's Sales tab.

  • Drafts are saved in the web browser you are using. They do not follow you to another computer or browser.

How do I save an email as a draft?

  1. Open the sales opportunity and go to the Sales tab.

  2. In the communication box, click the Email tab.

  3. Start your email. Add a subject or some message text.

  4. Leave the email when you need to. Moving to another page, reloading, or closing the browser tab saves the draft automatically.

How do I finish a draft later?

  1. Open the same sales opportunity, in the same browser, and go to the Sales tab.

  2. Click the Email tab. Your draft fills back in, with its recipients, subject, and message.

  3. Attach any files again. Attachments are not kept with a draft.

  4. Click Send Email. Once the email sends, the draft is cleared.

How do I discard a draft?

  1. Open the draft on the opportunity's Email tab.

  2. Delete the subject and the message text.

  3. Leave the email. With no subject or message, SmartMoving does not keep a draft.

Key details about email drafts

  • Drafts stay in the browser you wrote them in. A draft does not appear on another computer, in another browser, or after you clear your browser data.

  • Drafts are personal and per opportunity. Your draft on one opportunity is separate from your drafts on others, and coworkers do not see your drafts.

  • A draft needs a subject or message. An email with only recipients filled in is not saved as a draft.

  • Attachments are not kept with a draft. Files you attached stay on the opportunity's Files & Photos tab, but you need to attach them to the email again.

  • Drafts are kept for 14 days. A draft you have not returned to in 14 days is cleared.

  • A failed send keeps your draft. If the email does not send, the message stays in the composer so you can fix the problem and try again.

  • Sending clears the draft. After an email sends, the composer starts empty the next time you open it on that opportunity.

Best practices for email drafts

  • Finish longer emails on the same computer and browser you started them on, since drafts do not follow you.

  • Add the subject first, so the email is kept as a draft from the start if you are pulled away.

  • Attach files just before you send, since attachments are not kept with a draft.

Troubleshooting email drafts

  • My draft is gone.

    • Drafts are saved in the browser. Check that you are on the same computer and browser you wrote the email in, and that it has been less than 14 days. Clearing your browser data also removes drafts.

  • My draft came back but the attachments did not.

    • Attachments are not kept with a draft. Attach the files again before you click Send Email. Files you attached earlier are on the opportunity's Files & Photos tab.

  • An old message keeps coming back in the composer.

    • An unsent draft is still saved for that opportunity. Send the email, or delete the subject and message to discard it.
