Instagram accounts cannot be connected directly through SmartMoving. Instead, a member of SmartMoving’s Customer Success team will complete the connection on your behalf. This ensures the account is set up correctly and meets Instagram’s requirements for business integrations.
This article explains how to grant access and what’s required before your Instagram account can be connected.
Important Requirements
Before requesting an Instagram connection, make sure the following requirements are met:
The Instagram account must be an Instagram Business account
The Instagram Business account must be connected to a Facebook Page
You must have admin access to the associated Facebook Page
Personal Instagram accounts are not supported and cannot be connected to SmartMoving.
How Instagram Connections Work
Because Instagram integrations rely on Facebook’s business infrastructure, SmartMoving’s Customer Success team must authenticate the connection for you. There are two ways to provide access.
Option 1: Share Access During Onboarding or via Email
You can share the necessary credentials or access details with your Customer Success representative:
During your onboarding call
By replying to an email from the SmartMoving team
This allows Customer Success to authenticate and complete the connection for you.
Option 2: Grant Admin Access to SmartMoving
Alternatively, you can grant admin access so a SmartMoving representative can connect the account securely.
Granting Admin Access to the Facebook Page
Instagram Business accounts are managed through a connected Facebook Page. To grant access:
Go to the Facebook Page associated with your Instagram Business account
Click Settings (bottom-left corner of the Page)
Select Page Roles from the left-hand menu
Under Assign a New Page Role, enter the name or email of the SmartMoving representative
Select Admin from the role dropdown
Click Add
The person you add will receive a notification to accept the role.
Once access is granted, the SmartMoving Customer Success team will complete the Instagram connection for you.
How to Check If Your Instagram Account Is a Business Account
To confirm your account type:
Open the Instagram app
Go to your profile
Look under your bio
If you see options like Insights, Promotions, or Ad Tools, your account is already a Business account.
Switching to an Instagram Business Account
If your account is currently personal, you can switch it to a Business account:
Open the Instagram app
Tap the menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner
Select Settings and Privacy
Scroll down and tap Account Type and Tools
Choose Switch to Professional Account
Follow the prompts to complete the setup
Once switched, make sure the account is connected to a Facebook Page.
