Custom lead statuses can be used to segment your leads / opportunities. Once one or more lead statuses have been added you will be able to tag any lead with your custom status allowing you to filter your list to only those leads that match any custom status. A common use case would be to segment your leads by priority so that your sales team can focus on high priority leads first.
