Overview
You can create an outbound opportunity directly from a storage account's Inventory tab. After you pick the items you want to move out, SmartMoving asks whether the job is a delivery or a customer pickup, then opens the opportunity wizard with customer and address details prefilled.
Before You Start
Available to accounts using SmartMoving Storage.
You need to be an admin (typically owners) with access to the storage account and its Inventory tab.
The storage account must already have inventory items recorded.
Items already linked to a Storage Outbound opportunity, or that have a Warehouse Cross Ref Check or Shipper Destination Check, cannot be added to a new opportunity.
How To Do It
Open the storage account and click the Inventory tab.
Use the checkboxes in the inventory list to select the items you want to move out.
Click Create Opportunity.
The Create Outbound Opportunity modal opens with the question, "How will these items be returned to the customer?"
Choose one of the two options:
Delivery ("We deliver items to the customer's location"). This is the default selection.
Pickup ("Customer picks up items from the warehouse").
Click Continue.
If the storage account has overdue invoices, a notification modal appears. Review the details and confirm to proceed.
The opportunity wizard opens with the following fields prefilled: customer name, phone number, email, service type, and origin address.
Review and complete any remaining required fields in the wizard.
Dispatch the outbound job.
The origin address is prefilled using this fallback order: Warehouse Address, then Branch Address, then Company Address.
The selected items become available in the Crew App for the crew to complete a warehouse check. All previous detailed inventory information carries over automatically.
To exit without creating an opportunity, close the modal. Your selected items remain checked on the Inventory tab so you can adjust your selection or come back later.
Best Practices
Confirm the customer's preferred return method before you click Continue. The choice is stored on the outbound request, so changing it later means reworking the job.
Check the Out column on the Inventory tab before selecting items. Items showing Out in that column are already linked to an outbound opportunity and cannot be selected for a new one.
Resolve any overdue invoices before initiating a move-out to avoid interruptions during the outbound workflow.
Use the Inventory tab when only some items are leaving storage. Selecting items in advance scopes the outbound opportunity to the right inventory.
For a full storage move-out, you can also create the opportunity from the global Add menu and link it to the storage account.
Troubleshooting
The Create Opportunity option is disabled. One or more selected items are already linked to a Storage Outbound opportunity, or have an existing Warehouse Cross Ref Check or Shipper Destination Check. Deselect those items or review their current status before proceeding.
The Continue button does not move me forward. Make sure either Delivery or Pickup is selected, then click Continue. Delivery is selected for you by default.
My item selection cleared after I closed the modal. Closing the Create Outbound Opportunity modal should keep your selections on the Inventory tab. If items appear unselected, refresh the Inventory tab and re-select the items you need.
The outbound option is not visible on the Inventory tab. If you don't see this option, contact SmartMoving Support.
