How to Customize Commercial Branding

Learn how to set the logo and colors your commercial account contacts see in the Commercial Customer Portal, for your company and for individual branches.

Written by Michelle Carone

Overview

Set the logo, colors, and email footer your commercial account contacts see in the Commercial Customer Portal and in the emails you send for commercial projects and jobs.

  • Set branding once for the company, and override it for any branch that uses its own logo, colors, or footer.

  • Commercial emails use the logo and the Email Appearance settings in place of your residential email branding.

Before You Start

  • Available to companies with Smart Pro.

  • You must have permission to access Settings.

  • System Email From Address is view-only on this page.

How to Set Company Branding

  1. Navigate to Settings > Commercial > Commercial Branding.

  2. Select the Company tab.

  3. Upload your Logo and choose a Logo Display of Portrait or Landscape.

  4. In the Email Appearance card, set Email Button Color, Background Color, and Font Color.

  5. Enter your Email Footer.

  6. In the Commercial Portal Branding card, set each color you want to change: Button Color, Button Text Color, Title Text Color, Banner Color, Banner Text Color, and Background Color.

  7. Click Save Changes.

The result: contacts see your logo and colors when they sign in to the Commercial Customer Portal, and commercial emails carry your logo, email colors, and footer.

Note: Company portal brand settings apply to all branches by default.

How to Set Branch Branding

Use branch branding when a branch operates under its own logo, colors, or email footer.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Commercial > Commercial Branding.

  2. Select the Branches tab.

  3. Select the branch you want to change.

  4. Upload a Logo, then fill in only the email and portal colors that differ from the company.

  5. Enter an Email Footer if the branch needs its own.

  6. Click Save Changes.

The result: contacts on accounts belonging to that branch see the branch branding in the portal, and commercial emails sent for that branch use the branch logo, colors, and footer.

How to Set the Commercial Email Footer

The Email Footer appears at the bottom of every commercial email.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Commercial > Commercial Branding.

  2. Select the Company tab, or the Branches tab and a branch.

  3. In the Email Appearance card, type your footer in the Email Footer editor.

  4. Click Save Changes.

The result: commercial emails for that company or branch end with this footer.

  • A branch with no footer of its own shows the company footer as grey text and uses it in emails.

  • When the company has no commercial footer, commercial emails use your residential email footer.

How to Show Your State License Number in the Commercial Customer Portal

The Commercial Customer Portal footer shows your state license number when one is set. Set it once for the company, and override it for any branch that holds its own license.

How to set the company license number

  1. Navigate to Settings > Company Details.

  2. In State License Number (optionally incl. label), enter your number. Include a label if you want one to show, for example DMV: 123456789.

  3. Click Save Changes.

How to set a branch license number

  1. Navigate to Settings > Branches.

  2. Select the branch.

  3. In the Override Company Details card, enter the number in State License Number (optionally incl. label).

  4. Click Save Changes.

The result: the footer of every Commercial Customer Portal page shows the license number on the left and Powered by SmartMoving on the right. Contacts on accounts belonging to that branch see the branch number after they sign in.

Key Details

  • The Commercial Customer Portal uses six color settings: Button Color, Button Text Color, Title Text Color, Banner Color, Banner Text Color, and Background Color.

  • When no logo is set, the Commercial Customer Portal displays your company name as text instead.

  • Branch branding overrides company branding for accounts on that branch. Branches you do not customize continue to use the company branding.

  • Commercial branding is separate from your residential branding. Changing one does not change the other.

  • The license number appears in the footer on the sign-in page, on every page after sign-in, and on the invoice payment pages.

  • The footer shows the number exactly as entered, including any label you type with it.

  • When no license number is set, or the field holds only 0, the footer shows only Powered by SmartMoving, centered.

  • A branch license number overrides the company number for contacts on accounts belonging to that branch. A branch with the field left empty uses the company number.

  • The sign-in page always shows the company license number, because the contact's account is not known until they sign in.

  • On narrow screens, such as phones, the license number and Powered by SmartMoving stack and center.

  • Commercial emails use the Logo from this page, the three Email Appearance colors, and the Email Footer.

  • Email Button Color is set separately from the portal Button Color.

  • Commercial emails send from the System Email From Address shown on this page, and the @CompanyEmail token in those emails shows the same address.

  • Until you change them, the Email Appearance colors and System Email From Address match your residential email settings, and commercial emails use your residential footer.

  • Preview and Send Test Email show commercial branding for templates in the Commercial category and for Commercial Document Signed. Other templates preview with residential branding.

  • The reset colors button on the Commercial Portal Branding card resets the six portal colors only. The email colors keep their values.

  • Text messages do not carry branding.

Best Practices

  • Set company branding first, then override only the branches that genuinely differ.

  • Check the contrast between Button Color and Button Text Color, and between Banner Color and Banner Text Color, so text stays readable.

  • Upload a logo with a transparent background so it sits cleanly on your chosen Banner Color.

  • Set branding before sending portal invitations so contacts see your company identity on their first visit.

  • Enter the license number with the label your state requires, such as DMV: or USDOT, so contacts can tell what the number is.

  • Set the Email Footer at the company level first, then add a branch footer only where the branch needs different contact details.

  • Check the contrast between Email Button Color and Background Color so email buttons stand out.

  • Send a test of a Commercial category template to yourself after changing email branding to see the result.

Troubleshooting Commercial Customer Portal Branding

  • My license number does not show in the portal footer.

    • Check State License Number (optionally incl. label) on Settings > Company Details. A value of 0 is treated as no number. Enter your actual license number and click Save Changes.

  • A contact sees the company license number instead of the branch number.

    • On the sign-in page the company number always shows. After the contact signs in, the branch number shows only if the contact's account belongs to that branch and the branch has a number in its Override Company Details card.

  • The template preview shows my residential branding.

    • Templates outside the Commercial category, such as Job Completed, preview with residential branding. When one of these sends for a job on a commercial project, it uses commercial branding.

  • A commercial email still shows my residential footer.

    • No commercial Email Footer is set for the company or the branch. Enter one in the Email Appearance card and click Save Changes.

  • A branch email shows the company footer.

    • The branch has no footer of its own. Select the branch on the Branches tab, type its footer, and click Save Changes.

  • I cannot edit System Email From Address.

    • The field is view-only on this page.
