How to recalculate estimate items and totals

When updates have been made to an estimate that affect other parts of the estimate, recalculation can be used to sync the data. For instance, you can recalculate an estimate after updating the mileage so that the changes cascade to the related mileage fees. Or if you change the number of crew members, you can ensure that the changes cascade are reflected in the hourly rate and / or total job cost.

To recalculate an estimate, you can do any of the following three things:
auto-recalculate, recalculate the entire estimate, or recalculate specific items.

Automatically recalculate as you go

Auto-recalculate is enabled for new estimates by default. This feature automatically syncs data as you add or change different items on the opportunity that affect other items. For instance, as you add or update stop addresses, the trip fee will be automatically updated. Also, updates to the cubic feet and weight of the move may automatically update the number of crew members, trucks, and the move time, and updates to the hourly move rate may automatically update the total move price.

For more information on auto-recalculate, view the Automatic vs. manual estimate calculation article.

If the auto-recalculate feature is not enabled, you will need to use one of the following options below.

Recalculate the entire estimate

To recalculate the entire estimate after changes have been made, click Recalculate on the opportunity page. This will update all items with arrows near them. Be aware that any custom pricing you have entered that has deviated from the original auto-calculated values will get overwritten.

Recalculate specific estimate items

In SmartMoving, Recalculate arrow icons appear next to items that have been changed to call out that the update is now different than the default or that it no longer fits the recommendation.

The appearance of these icons does not necessarily mean something is wrong. For instance, you might decide to add an additional crew member to a move that only requires 3 people in order to save time. Once you update the crew members to 4, SmartMoving may show a Recalculate arrow icon next to the number of crew members to point out that there are more crew members on the job than recommended for the job size. However, you may keep the crew members at 4 if desired, even if it goes against the recommendation.

Important Note: If the auto-recalculate toggle is not enabled and you increase a job of 3 crew members to 4 crew members, SmartMoving will not automatically update the price per hour or total cost because the feature is turned off. To update these items, you can use the Recalculate arrow icon next to any item you wish to update, or click the Recalculate button to recalculate the entire estimate.
