Overview
Crew skill rates let you define hourly pricing for each specialized skill type your commercial crews use. When you configure crew skills in Settings, each skill automatically generates its own rate page within the rate editor. This connects your staffing requirements directly to your pricing.
Before You Start
Available to companies with Smart Pro.
You must have Accounts permission.
Crew skills must be configured in Settings > Commercial > Crew Skills.
A rate sheet must be set up on the account or project (see "Setting Up Account-Level Rates").
How Skill Rates Appear in the Rate Sheet
The Skill Rates section appears at the bottom of the rate menu, but only if crew skills have been configured. Each skill generates its own rate page. For example, if you have configured PMs, Drivers, and Movers as crew skills, you will see three entries:
PMs Rates
Drivers Rates
Movers Rates
How to Configure Skill Rates
Open the rate editor (from either the account or project Rates tab).
Click Edit Advanced Rates to access the full rate menu.
Scroll to the Skill Rates section at the bottom of the menu.
Click a skill name (for example, Movers Rates).
Rate Types
Each skill rate page includes two rate types:
Rate Type | Description |
Hourly | A straight hourly rate for the skill. The total charge is calculated as hours worked multiplied by the rate. |
Flat Rate Plus Hourly | A flat base fee plus an hourly rate. Useful for skills that have a minimum charge plus time-based billing. |
Setting Rates by Period
Skill rates support period-based pricing, which means you can set different rates for different date ranges (configured in the Periods section of the rate sheet).
Select a period from the period dropdown at the top of the page.
Enter the rates for that period.
Click Save to apply.
Select additional periods and repeat as needed.
đĄ SmartTip: If your rates do not change seasonally, you only need to set rates for the default period.
How Skill Rates Connect to Jobs
When you assign crew skills to a job (for example, "Movers x4"), SmartMoving uses the skill rates from the applicable rate sheet to calculate charges. The rate hierarchy applies:
If the project has custom rates, those skill rates are used.
If not, the account-level rates are used.
Best Practices
Configure skill rates after setting up crew skills in Settings, so each skill has pricing defined before jobs are scheduled.
Review skill rates when copying a rate sheet to a project, since the copied rates may need adjustment for project-specific negotiations.
Use the Flat Rate Plus Hourly option for skills that have a minimum engagement fee (for example, a forklift operator with a 2-hour minimum plus hourly billing).
