Overview
Storage account container counts update automatically as items are assigned to or removed from containers. On accounts that bill By Container, a confirmation prompt appears before any change that affects recurring charges.
Before You Start
Available to accounts using SmartMoving Storage. Requires admin role.
This applies to storage accounts that have items assigned to containers. The behavior depends on the storage account's rate type: By Container, By CWT (hundredweight), By Flat Rate, or By Cubic Foot. On By Container accounts, adding or removing containers affects recurring charges and requires confirmation. On all other rate types, container counts update automatically with no confirmation.
If you don't see this option, contact SmartMoving Support.
How Container Counts Update
When You Add Items to a Container
Assign items to a container that is not already tracked on the storage account.
On By Container accounts, a confirmation modal appears asking whether to add the container and update recurring charges.
Click Confirm to add the container and update the count. Click Cancel to leave the account unchanged; the items are not moved to the container and the count does not update.
On By CWT, By Flat Rate, and By Cubic Foot accounts, the container count updates automatically with no modal.
The result: the storage account's container count reflects the new container, and on By Container accounts the recurring charges update to match.
When You Remove All Items from a Container
Remove all items from a container.
A prompt appears asking whether the container is still in use.
If the container is no longer in use, the container count decreases. On By Container accounts, a confirmation modal appears before the container is removed from recurring charges. On other rate types, the update happens automatically.
If the container is still in use, the count and billing remain unchanged.
When an Item Is Marked as Oversized (OS)
On By Container accounts, a confirmation modal appears before Oversized (OS) charges are applied. On other rate types, no Oversized confirmation prompt appears because container counts do not drive billing.
Best Practices
On By Container accounts, canceling the confirmation modal leaves the account untouched. Items are not moved to the container and the count is not updated.
Container counts on non-per-container rate types update silently. Billing is not affected by container counts on those accounts.
The Oversized item confirmation prevents unintended charges from being applied.
No manual container count updates are needed.
Troubleshooting
A confirmation modal did not appear when I expected one. Confirmation modals only appear on By Container accounts. On other rate types, container count updates apply automatically without prompts.
The container count did not update after I assigned items. On By Container accounts, the count updates only after you confirm the modal. If you canceled, the items were not moved to the container.
Oversized charges applied without a prompt. Confirm the account is set to By Container pricing. Other rate types do not generate Oversized confirmation prompts because container counts do not drive billing on those accounts.
