Searching for Accounts and Projects

Use global search in SmartMoving to quickly find commercial accounts, projects, jobs, and purchase orders from anywhere in the app.

Written by Michelle Carone

Overview

Global search lets you jump directly to a commercial account, project, job, or purchase order from anywhere in SmartMoving. Instead of browsing the Accounts landing page or drilling into a project to find a job, you can open the search panel from the header, type a few characters, and click straight through to the record you need.

Before You Start

  • Available to companies with Smart Pro.

  • You must have Accounts permission to see the Commercial search tab.

  • The accounts, projects, jobs, or purchase orders you want to find must already exist in your system.

Where to Access Search

The search icon lives in the top header bar and is available from every page in SmartMoving.

  1. Click the search icon (magnifying glass) in the top header.

  2. The global search panel opens as a slideout.

  3. If you have access to more than one area, select the Commercial tab to search commercial records.

Note: The search panel also includes Moving and Storage tabs, depending on your permissions and company setup. This article covers the Commercial tab only.

How to Search

  1. Open the global search panel and select the Commercial tab.

  2. Click into the search field.

  3. Type at least 3 characters of what you are looking for. You can search by:

    1. Account name

    2. Email address

    3. Phone number

    4. Project name

    5. Job number

    6. Purchase order number

  4. Pause briefly after typing. Results load automatically.

  5. Click any result to open that record. To open the record in a new browser tab, click the open in new icon next to its name.

💡 SmartTip: Search runs automatically as you type, so there is no Search button to click. Just keep typing or refine your query, and the results refresh on their own.

Understanding Search Results

Results are grouped by record type. Each group appears in its own section with an icon and a label. Only sections that have matches are shown.

Section

What Appears

Commercial Accounts

Account name, business address, account status, primary contact email, primary contact phone

Commercial Projects

Project number, project name, project status badge, primary contact email and phone, active job count

Commercial Jobs

Account name, job status badge, job number, phone, email, service type, service date

Purchase Orders

Project name, project status, primary contact email and phone, purchase order number

Navigating From Results

  • Click an account row to open the account's detail page.

  • Click a project row to open that project under its parent account.

  • Click a job row to open the job inside its project and account.

  • Click a purchase order row to open the related project.

  • Click the open in new icon on any row to open the record in a new browser tab so you can keep the search panel open.

If no records match your query, the panel shows a No results message. Adjust your search and try again.

Search Tips

  • Minimum of 3 characters. Shorter queries will not trigger a search.

  • Partial matches work. You do not need the full name or number. A few characters from an account name, email, or job number is usually enough.

  • Search pauses briefly before running. There is a short delay after you stop typing so the panel can load results. Keep typing if you are still refining your query.

  • The panel closes when you navigate. Clicking a result takes you to that record and closes the search panel. Use the open in new icon if you want to compare several records.

💡 SmartTip: If you are not sure whether a contact belongs to a commercial account or a moving customer, check both the Commercial and Moving tabs in the search panel.
