Configuring Project-Level Pricing Overrides

Learn how to set up, change, and remove project-specific rates that override account-level pricing in SmartMoving.

Written by Michelle Carone

Overview

Project-level pricing overrides let you customize rates for a specific project without changing the account's default rate sheet. This is useful when a client negotiates special pricing for a particular engagement. Modified rates apply only to jobs within that project.

Before You Start

  • Available to companies with Smart Pro.

  • You must have Accounts permission.

  • The project must already be created within an account.

How to Access Project Pricing

  1. Open the project detail page.

  2. Click the Rates tab.

How to Set Up Project-Specific Rates

If the project does not yet have custom rates, you will see a prompt:

"Pick a tariff to copy as a starting point to configure your pricing rules. Modified rates will only apply to this project."

  1. Select a tariff from the Select Tariff to Copy dropdown.

  2. Click Copy Rates.

  3. The rate editor loads with the same menu structure and categories as the account-level rate editor (see "Setting Up Account-Level Rates" for a full breakdown of rate categories).

  4. Edit the rates you want to customize for this project.

  5. Click Save to apply.

The page displays which tariff the rates were copied from for reference.

How to Change the Source Rate Sheet

If you need to replace the project's rates with a different starting rate sheet:

  1. On the Rates tab, locate the tariff dropdown in the header area.

  2. Select a different tariff.

  3. A confirmation dialog appears:

"Updating the tariff will remove the current project-specific rates and replace them with the selected tariff. This action cannot be undone."

  1. Type CONFIRM in the text field.

  2. Click Update Tariff.

Note: Changing the source replaces all project-specific rates with the selected rate sheet's values. Any custom edits you made previously are lost.

How to Remove Project-Specific Rates

If you want to remove the project's custom rates entirely (so it falls back to the account-level rates):

  1. On the Rates tab, select Remove Rates from the tariff dropdown.

  2. A confirmation dialog appears:

"You are about to remove all project-specific rates. This action cannot be undone."

  1. Type CONFIRM in the text field.

  2. Click Remove Rates.

The project returns to the initial state where you can copy a new rate sheet if needed.

Best Practices

  • Copy the account's rates as your starting point so you only need to adjust the rates that differ for the project.

  • Document any negotiated rate changes in the project notes so your team has context for the custom pricing.

  • Use project-level pricing sparingly. If most projects for an account use the same rates, configure them at the account level instead.
