Overview
A commercial segment is a list of commercial contacts that a campaign can target, filtered by the commercial jobs they are on.
You pick Commercial as the audience type when you create the segment, then add conditions such as Job Status or Last Job Service Date.
Before You Start
Commercial Contacts Sync is turned on for your company. See How to Turn On Commercial Contacts in Smart Marketing.
Note: The Audience Type choice appears only while Commercial Contacts Sync is on. With the sync off, every new segment is a residential segment.
How Commercial Segments Find Contacts
A commercial segment matches commercial contacts through the commercial jobs they are attached to.
A contact is included when a commercial job they are attached to meets your conditions.
A contact on a commercial account who is not attached to any job still syncs and counts toward your billable contacts. They are not matched by commercial segment conditions until they are attached to a job.
Each email address counts once in a segment, even when it is attached to several jobs.
Job Status matches a contact who has any job in the status you choose.
How to Create a Commercial Segment
Go to Smart Marketing > Segments.
Click New Segment. The Create New Segment panel opens.
Enter a segment name. Add a description and tags if you want them.
Under Audience Type, select Commercial.
Click Create Segment. The segment builder opens and shows how many commercial contacts you have, with the prompt Start adding conditions to find your ideal target audience.
Add one or more conditions from the lists below. The contact count updates as you build.
Save the segment.
đĄ SmartTip: You can also create a commercial segment from inside a campaign. On the Target Audience step, select Commercial, then click Create a new segment.
Commercial Segment Conditions
A commercial segment offers conditions built for commercial work, in two groups. The options inside each condition come from your company's own SmartMoving settings.

Key Details
The audience type is set when you create the segment and stays with it. On Segment Details, the Audience Type choice shows as locked.
Duplicating a commercial segment creates another commercial segment.
Commercial segments start from scratch. Segment templates are for residential segments.
Residential move conditions, such as Move Size, Binding Type, Opportunity Type, Tags, Booked Date, Estimate Sent Date, and Lost Reason, are available on residential segments.
The Segments list shows an Audience Type column. Use the All Audience Types filter to show only Residential or only Commercial segments.
While Commercial Contacts Sync is off, commercial segments are hidden from the list and count 0 contacts. They come back when the sync is turned on.
Troubleshooting
There is no Audience Type choice when I create a segment.
Commercial Contacts Sync is off. Turn it on in Settings > Smart Marketing > Contacts Sync.
I created a segment as Residential by mistake.
The audience type cannot be switched on an existing segment. Create a new segment and select Commercial.
My commercial segment shows fewer contacts than my commercial accounts have.
Only contacts attached to a commercial job that meets your conditions are counted. Contacts without an email address, and unsubscribed contacts, are never included.
My commercial segments disappeared from the Segments list.
Commercial Contacts Sync was turned off. Your segments are kept and reappear when the sync is back on.
Best Practices
Attach the right contacts to each commercial job, since job attachment decides who a commercial segment reaches.
Use Last Completed Job Date to find accounts you have not served in a while.
Name segments so the audience is clear at a glance, for example "Commercial: completed jobs, last 90 days".
