You can move payments between opportunities. All payments can be moved except credit card payments that have been partially or fully refunded.
Updating "Move Payment" Permissions
By default, only Admin users have the ability to move payments. These permissions can be adjusted as needed.
To change the permissions for which team roles have access to move payments, navigate to Settings > Company Settings > Roles & Permissions (or click here to go directly to the page).
Under the Actions section, add or remove roles from the Move Payment row.

There are two ways to arrive at the Payments panel.
Method 1: Navigate to the Estimate Tab
On the Estimate Tab navigate to the Payments panel.
Method 2: Navigate to the Accounting tab.
On the Accounting Tab navigate to the Payments panel.

First, click the menu icon on the payment and select Move Payment.
Next, look up the customer and the opportunity that you want to move the payment to.

Then, click Move.
The payment will now be visible under the selected job. If QuickBooks Sync is enabled, the payment will automatically update in QuickBooks as well.
