What Are Common Items?

Common Items are a pre-seeded list of the 20 most frequently used inventory items, designed to speed up inventory creation.

  • New accounts automatically receive a starter list based on SmartMoving’s overall customer data

  • Existing accounts may see a list influenced by their company’s historical usage

  • Crews can quickly select items from this list instead of browsing room by room

This helps reduce scrolling and ensures commonly inventoried items are always easy to find.

Customizing the Common Items List (Admin Setup)

Admins can control which items appear in the Common Items tab directly from the Web App.

How to Mark an Item as a Common Item

  1. Go to Settings > Estimate Lists > Inventory.

  2. Use the ⭐ (star) icon to mark items as Common Items.

  3. These starred items will appear in the “Common Items” tab in the mobile app.

Filter Common Items in the Master Inventory List

To make managing Common Items easier, SmartMoving now includes a filter in the master inventory list.

  • Admins can filter the list to show only starred (Common) items

  • This eliminates the need to scroll through the full inventory list

  • Makes it faster to review, update, or remove items from the Common Items tab

This update is designed specifically to simplify ongoing maintenance of the Common Items experience for crews.

Duplicate Item Handling

Note: Duplicate items (for example, multiple versions of “Side Table”) are automatically filtered out in the Crew App.

  • Only one version will display in the Common Items tab

  • A short description may be shown if needed for clarity

This ensures crews see a clean, easy-to-use list without confusion or redundancy.
