Overview
The Storage Portal includes a search bar and a set of filters that help the customer locate inventory items without scrolling through every record. Search runs as the customer types, and filters can be combined to narrow the results. Search and filters behave the same way in list view and gallery view.
Before You Start
Available to your storage customers through the Storage Portal. Requires an account using SmartMoving Storage. The room filter appears only when your company has mapped items to rooms in the storage account.
How To Do It
Search Inventory Items
The customer opens the inventory section of the Storage Portal. It opens in the view they used last; on a first visit, that is list view.
The customer clicks the search bar at the top of the inventory. The placeholder reads Search by item name or description.
The customer types any part of an item name or description. The list updates as they type, showing items where the search text matches the name or the description.
Clearing the search bar returns the full item list.
Filter Inventory
Below the search bar, filter controls appear inline.
The customer clicks the Date Range button to choose a single date or a date range. The list shows items that entered storage during that period. To clear the date, the customer clicks the X icon next to the date button.
The All Statuses dropdown filters by an item's current status. The available status is In Storage.
The All Rooms dropdown filters by the room an item is assigned to. The list updates to show only items in the selected room.
The Show only damaged toggle limits the list to items with damage records attached.
More than one filter can be applied at a time to narrow the list further.
Switch Between List View and Gallery View
The view toggle sits in the top right of the inventory section.
Clicking the List View icon shows items in a table with columns such as Entered Storage and status.
Clicking the Gallery View icon shows items as photo cards.
Search text and filter selections stay applied when the customer switches views.
The portal remembers the last view the customer used and opens to that view on the next visit.
If the inventory has no items, the screen reads "No inventory items yet." If the search or filters return no matches, the screen reads "No items match your search or filters."
Key Details
The room filter is available only when items have been mapped to rooms. If no rooms have been assigned, the filter is disabled and a tooltip reads "No rooms have been assigned to items yet."
Filters can be stacked: a date range, a status, a room, and the damaged toggle can all apply at the same time.
Search and filter selections persist when the customer toggles between list view and gallery view; they do not need to be re-applied.
Best Practices
Search by name for a specific item; use filters for a group of items, such as everything that arrived in a date range or every item still in storage.
Combine search and filters from the top down: filter by status first to narrow the list, then search by name within that smaller list.
Gallery View is best for a quick visual scan of items with photos; List View is best for column details such as date entered storage.
Map a customer's items to rooms if they want to use the room filter. The filter stays disabled until rooms are assigned.
Troubleshooting
The room filter is grayed out. Items have not been mapped to rooms in the storage account. Map rooms to the customer's items to enable the filter.
An item the customer expects to see is missing. Clear the search bar and reset every filter. An active filter or search term may be hiding the item.
The view does not change after tapping a filter on mobile. Make sure Apply Filters is tapped at the bottom of the modal. Filter selections are not saved until they are applied.
