Overview
The Storage Portal includes an item detail view that opens any inventory item in a single modal. Shippers can see mapped item information, status, photos grouped by inventory event, and (when enabled by your company) an item-level activity log. The item detail view is available from both the list view and the gallery view.
Before You Start
Available to your storage customers through the Storage Portal. Requires an account using SmartMoving Storage. Shippers open the portal from their personal link, and no login is required. Admins who manage Customer Portal settings can turn the Show Item-Level Activity Log setting on or off.
How To Do It
Open the Item Detail View from List View
Click anywhere on a row outside the photo thumbnail. The Item Detail modal opens for that item.
To open the item's photos directly, click on the photo thumbnail. The photo carousel opens, letting them step through every photo for that item.
If a row has no photo, the thumbnail area shows a placeholder. Clicking the placeholder area opens the Item Detail modal.
Open the Item Detail View from Gallery View
Review Information in the Item Detail Modal
The Item Detail modal shows everything about a single inventory item in one place.
The modal header displays the item name and an In Storage status badge when the item is currently in storage.
The Details column on the left shows mapped item information. Sub-sections appear only when data is present:
Details (weight, volume, and item description)
Item (item number and code)
Contents (boxes only)
Damages (Initial Inventory)
Damages ([Event] Check) for any inventory check that recorded damages
Damages (Storage) for damages logged in the Storage module
Room
Notes ([Source]) for notes grouped by their source
Notes for any item-level notes
Packing Type
Additional Details (tags and chips on the item)
The Photos panel on the right groups photos by inventory event (for example, the inventory check the photos came from). Each group shows the upload date.
The customer clicks any thumbnail. The carousel opens with that photo selected and lets them step through every photo for the item across all groups. The carousel header shows the group label and the upload date for the active photo. A counter pill (for example, 2 of 6) appears when more than one photo is available.
The footer of the modal includes a Cancel link and a Request Item button.
To close the modal, the customer clicks Cancel, clicks the X at the top right, or presses the Escape key. They return to the previous view (list or gallery) with their selection and search intact.
View the Item Activity Log
The activity log appears only when your company has turned on Show Item-Level Activity Log in Customer Portal Settings.
The customer opens the Item Detail modal for any item.
In the modal header, the customer clicks View Item Activity Log next to the close button.
The Photos panel swaps for an Activity Log list. Each entry shows the description and the date and time the event occurred.
To return to photos, the customer clicks View Photos. The button label flips between View Item Activity Log and View Photos as they switch panels.
The activity log in the Storage Portal does not display usernames. Customers see only the description and timestamp for each event. If no activity has been recorded, the panel shows "No activity recorded for this item." If the activity log fails to load, the panel shows "We couldn't load the activity log — try again."
For instructions on enabling the item-level activity log, see Enabling the Item-Level Activity Log in the Storage Portal.
Best Practices
After turning on Show Item-Level Activity Log, open a test customer's Storage Portal link and confirm that the View Item Activity Log button appears in the Item Detail modal.
Use the gallery view when a customer wants a visual scan of an account. Use the list view when sorting by item name, status, damages, notes, or entered-storage date is more useful.
Open the Item Detail modal to review damages by event before responding to a customer question. Damages are grouped by inventory event so you can trace when each was recorded.
Click any photo thumbnail in the modal to open the carousel. The carousel includes every photo for the item across all groups, so customers do not have to open each group separately.
Troubleshooting
The View Item Activity Log button does not appear in the modal. Confirm that Show Item-Level Activity Log is on in Customer Portal Settings under the Storage card. Save the change and reload the customer's Storage Portal.
The activity log shows an error when a customer opens it. Ask the customer to close the modal, reopen the item, and click View Item Activity Log again. If the error continues, contact SmartMoving Support.
A photo thumbnail does not open the carousel. The item may not have any photos attached. Items with no photos show a placeholder image and "No photos available for this item." in the Photos panel.
