Overview
You can remove items from a storage account's inventory when they no longer need to be tracked there. Items can be removed one at a time or in bulk from the Inventory tab of a storage account.
Removal is permanent and cannot be undone from the user interface. The item also disappears from the customer's view in the storage portal. Every removal is captured in the storage account's activity log, so the team can see who removed what.
Before You Start
Available to accounts using SmartMoving Storage.
You need admin access or another user role with the Storage permission to remove items from a storage account.
An item must have a status of In Storage and must not be attached to an outbound request before it can be removed.
Storage notes, damages, and photos attached to a removed item are deleted along with the item and cannot be recovered.
How To Do It
Remove a Single Item
Open the storage account and select the Inventory tab.
Find the item to remove. In List view, click the three-dot menu on the item's row. In Gallery view, click the three-dot menu on the item's card.
Click Remove from Inventory. A confirmation modal opens with the title Remove 1 item from inventory?
Review the modal. If the item has storage notes, damages, or photos, a warning lists what will also be removed.
Click Remove from Inventory to confirm. The item disappears from the Inventory tab and from the customer's storage portal view, and a success toast confirms the action.
Remove Multiple Items at Once
Open the storage account and select the Inventory tab.
Use the checkboxes to select two or more items.
In the bulk actions bar, click Remove from Inventory. A confirmation modal opens with the title Remove {N} items from inventory?, where {N} is the number of items selected.
Review the modal. A per-item warning lists any selected items that have notes, damages, or photos.
Click Remove from Inventory to confirm. The selected items disappear from the Inventory tab and from the customer's storage portal view, and a success toast confirms the action.
Re-import a Removed Item
Open the storage account and go to the Storage Module.
Select Import Items.
Choose the source opportunity for the item.
Select the item and complete the import. The item returns to the storage account's inventory as a fresh record.
Note: Re-running a Warehouse Check against the source descriptive inventory also creates a fresh inventory row.
Best Practices
Open an item and review its storage notes, damages, and photos before you remove it. Those records are deleted with the item and cannot be recovered.
Use bulk selection when clearing out a batch of items at the end of a storage account's life. It is faster and produces a single activity log entry that lists all the removed items by item number and name.
Use the activity log on the storage account to confirm which items were removed and by whom. Each removal entry includes the item number, the item name, and the acting user.
Troubleshooting
The Remove from Inventory option does not appear in the three-dot menu. The item is not eligible. Check the status. The item must be In Storage and must not be attached to an outbound request.
The bulk Remove from Inventory button is disabled. The tooltip reads, "One or more selected items cannot be removed because they are no longer 'In Storage' or are attached to an outbound request." Clear the ineligible items from the selection and try again.
An item was removed by mistake. Re-import it from the source opportunity through Storage Module > Import Items. The original storage notes, damages, and photos cannot be recovered.
