Overview
The Show Item-Level Activity Log setting controls whether customers can view a history of events for each item in the Storage Portal. When the setting is on, customers can switch the item detail view between photos and an activity log that lists each event by description and timestamp. This gives customers visibility into how their stored items have moved and changed over time.
Before You Start
This feature is part of SmartMoving's storage inventory scanning experience.
Contact SmartMoving Support if you have questions about availability for your account.
Office users need access to Customer Portal Common Settings to turn the setting on or off.
How To Do It
Note: The setting is off by default.
Turn the activity log on
Open Settings.
Select Customer Portal, then Common. The settings page opens.
Locate the Storage card.
Toggle Show Item-Level Activity Log on.
Click Save.
What customers see in the Storage Portal
After you turn the setting on, customers see the activity log option the next time they open an item detail view:
The customer opens the Storage Portal and selects an item from their inventory. The item detail view opens.
A View Item Activity Log button appears in the top corner of the item detail view, next to the close button.
The customer clicks View Item Activity Log. The photos panel is replaced by the activity log, which lists each entry with a description and timestamp.
The button label changes to View Photos. The customer can click it to switch back to the photos view.
When the setting is off, the View Item Activity Log button does not appear, and the photos panel is the default view.
Key Details and Notes
The activity log shown to customers does not include the username associated with each event.
If no activity has been recorded for an item, the Storage Portal shows a message stating that no activity is recorded. If the activity log fails to load, an error message appears so the customer can try again.
Best Practices
Decide whether you want customers to see operational activity before turning the setting on. The log includes movement, scanning, and status events that are normally internal to your team.
Communicate the change to your team so warehouse and dispatch staff know the activity log is visible to customers.
Review the log on a sample item after enabling the setting to confirm the events match what you want customers to see.
