Overview
When a check is performed on a storage inventory item, the item's Activity Log captures any damage or "received" event from that check. This gives you a continuous record of what happened to each item over time, both before and after it was imported into a storage account.
Before You Start
Available to accounts using SmartMoving Storage.
You must be an admin or have a role with access to storage accounts and the inventory item details slideout.
Item-level activity logs must be enabled for your company.
If you don't see this option, contact SmartMoving Support.
What Gets Logged
Activity log entries are created on a storage item only when a check records:
A damage instance. Example: "Box damage instance was added during the Warehouse check."
A receipt event when the item is marked as received. Example: "Sofa was marked as received during the Driver check."
Notes and photos by themselves do not create activity log entries. They are visible in the item's other tabs.
Entries from checks performed before an item is imported and entries from checks performed after an item is imported follow the same format. Each entry includes the check type, the action that was recorded, the user who performed the check, and the timestamp.
How To Do It
Open the storage account and click the Inventory tab.
Click the inventory item you want to review. The item details slideout opens.
Click the Activity Log tab in the slideout. The list shows every recorded event in date order.
Review each entry to see the action, the check type (such as Warehouse, Driver, Shipper Destination, or Warehouse Cross-Reference), the user who performed the check, and when it happened.
Best Practices
Use the Activity Log as the source of truth for damage and receipt events on a stored item.
When a customer or a teammate disputes the condition of an item, walk through the Activity Log entries together to confirm what was recorded and when.
Pair the Activity Log with the item's photos for clear documentation during a claim.
Troubleshooting
The Activity Log tab is not visible. Item-level activity logs are controlled by a company-wide setting. Check with an admin (typically owners) to confirm the setting is enabled for your company.
A check I performed is missing from the Activity Log. Activity log entries are created only when a check records damage or marks the item as received. Notes and photos alone do not appear here.
