Overview
If damage to a stored item is discovered after it has been placed in the warehouse, you can record it directly from the Storage Account. This lets your team document new damage without revisiting the original move job.
Warehouse damages appear separately from any damage recorded during the move process, making it easy to see when and where each damage was identified. Each time warehouse damage is added, the item's activity log is updated automatically.
Before You Start
Available to accounts using SmartMoving Storage. Requires admin role.
If you don't see this option, contact SmartMoving Support.
How To Do It
Navigate to the Storage Account that contains the affected item.
Open the item from the Inventory tab to launch the Item Details slideout.
In the Item Details slideout, click Add new damage. The damage form opens.
Enter at least one of the following: the type of damage, the location of the damage, or notes describing the damage. Any combination of these fields is accepted.
Click Save. The damage record is created and the item's activity log is updated with the damage type, location, and notes.
The new damage appears in the item's details under a separate warehouse damage section, distinct from any damage recorded during the move.
Best Practices
Record as much detail as possible when logging warehouse damage. Entering the damage type, location, and descriptive notes gives you a complete record if a claim arises later.
Check the item's activity log after saving to confirm the damage entry was recorded correctly.
Record warehouse damage as soon as it is discovered, so the item's activity log reflects when it was found.
Troubleshooting
The option to add warehouse damage is not visible. If you don't see this option, contact SmartMoving Support.
I cannot save a warehouse damage record. At least one field must be filled in before saving: damage type, location, or notes. Complete at least one of these fields and try again.
